Need to allow air to move in one direction, but need to prevent it moving back the same way?
Back draught shutters, also known as non return dampers do exactly this, with no need for human or actuator adjustment.

Series BDS Back Draught / Non Return Dampers are suitable for any situation requiring a single direction of airflow to be maintained. This can range from domestic uses like a cooker hood outlet, or large applications demanding a damper several square metres in size.
With all components made from extruded aluminium, Series BDS dampers are suitable for use in corrosive environments like coastal areas or swimming pools. A high temperature option can also be specified, which removes the standard brush seals, and replaces the standard nylon linkage system with a cast zinc and brass components.
Back draught shutters are operated purely by air pressure; designed to only allow air to travel one way, blades will be forced closed and cannot open if air tries to flow in the wrong direction. When air flows in the desired direction though, the opposite happens. All this without any human or system interaction.
To ensure effective operation, unless high temperature components have been specified, each blade comes fitted with a brush seal. This dramatically reduces leakage when the damper is being forced closed, and also stops blades clanging against each other when opening and closing.
Should adjustment of the opening pressure be required, we are able to link and weight blades. A weights kit will be sent with any back draught / non return damper with this option specified for adjustment on site. Please see the options tab above and download the full PDF for full information on Series BDS Back Draught Shutters / Non Return Dampers.
